While reading this and your other entries I couldn't help but think perhaps you could develop a second career around "NonStop according to Buckle"!?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14695910925025646087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4285729513030543746.post-63826198893740367612007-12-09T09:40:00.000-08:002007-12-09T09:40:00.000-08:00Jay's point about the reversing trend is good obse...Jay's point about the reversing trend is good observation. In the early days in the U.S. and Europe, the TUGs (as they were then) were pretty independent and largely took care of their own needs. ITUG had a mission in the late 1980s and early 1990s to help start new RUGs and I think that while that was an important mission, it had the paradoxical effect of weakening some of the existing groups and diluting their importance and independence in some cases. I'm happy to see the pendulum swinging back in the other direction.Stevenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03836725179200964613noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4285729513030543746.post-60606812985048770512007-12-07T12:59:00.000-08:002007-12-07T12:59:00.000-08:00Hi Richard-Great post! Since I am working directly with the RUGs from a Director level being able to leverage the thoughts of some noted individuals in our community is very valuable.

As a user group, we are in changing times but as you point out history shows this is not the first time and we can certainly adapt to continue providing value to our community.

By the way, that car would be really cool today . . . remember retro is in (that’s what my kids say any way!). So we are back in style again!Wallabies09https://www.blogger.com/profile/08199866662513463777noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4285729513030543746.post-28008897761742633412007-12-07T10:26:00.000-08:002007-12-07T10:26:00.000-08:00Richard,Good history and thoughts. I suggest and coordinate speakers, reserve rooms, get coffee and lunch - but if there's more I could be doing let me know. I'll have to ping Diana and see how she gets the HP giveaways...JJ1031https://www.blogger.com/profile/06535110742302224527noreply@blogger.com
