The show goes on; a recap of HPE Discover 2022

To say we fully enjoyed our time at this year’s HPE Discover would be to miss the point. This was the largest in-person gathering in which we have participated in the past two plus years and it proved to be well worth the wait. Many thanks to the Connect Team for making this experience real and a big thank you, too, to the team at NTI for giving Margo and me every opportunity to simply take it all in. This event was the hard launch of the latest Connect Tech Forum, Business Integration and Analysis and that for us was the highlight, but I am getting ahead of myself. What follows here is a number of brief notes I posted in the lead up to the show and then as the days progressed and they do tell the story. Some of it offers up intrigue even as other comments praise the efforts of HPE. One thing is for certain and that is the presence NonStop has within HPE. With the swing to GreenLake as an option, I am expecting to hear more from the NonStop team about GreenLake in the coming months. ...

To be discovered; Vegas, Baby! Vegas!

Somehow Margo and I arrived in London exactly as the Queen’s Jubilee was in full swing well. Road closures; major thoroughfares subject to extensive re-routing; Police force out in numbers and yes, there were even sightings of the Queens Household Cavalry between buildings. All in, a complete shemozzle on the weekend we arrived. And yet, we couldn’t hide our enthusiasm for being abroad for the first time since COVID took hold, but as we scheduled this ourselves we could hardly hold anyone accountable. The occasion was the BITUG BIG SIG event and we wouldn’t have missed it for well, anything. Huge thanks go out to the folks at NTI who made the week in London possible and as for the socializing with the British NonStop community it is hard to ignore just how important Chapter and RUG events truly are. In an environment where the information ebb and flow needs to be watched carefully, being given a keynote session in the big hall was more than welcomed. If you haven’t been keeping up with...

A funny thing happened on the way to the big event!

With the change in weather across North America more cars are heading out onto the freeways. The US Interstate system remains a marvel even all these years after it first appeared guaranteeing as it were that given the opportunity everyone can drive everywhere.. It matter little, apart from time constraints, the distance to be travelled as there is always a road that will take you there with a minimal fuss. Looking ahead to the big event and by this I mean the upcoming HPE Discover 2022 event in Las Vegas, it will be just another opportunity to hit the freeway. When it comes to big events there is no location where the tag fits any better than Las Vegas and perhaps there is no other showcase for all that is the best of HPE than what you find on display at the Venetian and Palazzo hotels. Did we mention that the Venetian canals there complete with the Rialto Bridge? Situated between both hotels you will find the Venetian Expo (formerly referred to as the Sands Expo), a cavernous v...

Events return in earnest!

There is always a car or two on the exhibition floor This past weekend we had the opportunity to combine just a little business with a weekend at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. If up until now you hadn’t come to the realization that Margo and I are both into cars then let me break the news gently, we had an opportunity to attend the three day carnival of speed (and noise) as a highlight of the quarter, but as Margo and I walked around the venue   we realized that we were indeed simply enjoying another event where similarities to past NonStop events couldn’t be ignored. Take for example the use the event made of the convention center. Packed into this venue were aisles littered with exhibits. Almost all the teams involved in racing that weekend had stalls attended by the marketing types you typically come across at any other event you care to name. Outside of the convention center there were many other stalls selling trinkets together with numerous food and drink pavil...

Chapters, RUGs, SIGs and Tech Forums – so many places, so many people, so much information!

The last NonStop TBC held in Burlingame, CA It is hard to have a conversation today where the word hybrid does not come up. You may be interested in cars and wonder whether your next vehicle should be a Plug-In Hybrid or better still, a pure Plug-In Electric. For countries like Australia, Canada and the US the distances out west (in all cases) tend to favor those vehicles that come with some form of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) as the charge station infrastructure leaves a lot to be desired. We have known of hybrid diesel electric power trains that drive trains and of late, cruise ships. We have also known of the hybrid grains that farmers sow each year even as we know that animal breeding programs have led to hybrid stock – those that provide meat even as access to feed and water diminishes. One such hybrid example that, to be honest, intrigued me is the hybrid bison and cow, otherwise known as the beefalo! However, it is in the technology arena where concept of hybrids is b...
