  If there is one overused word in the world of technology it has to be change. Yes, I have changed a tire or two in my time just as I have changed houses and even countries. I have been forced to change travel itineraries more than once even as I have had to change because of inclement weather. And I am known to change my mind at the very last moment when ordering a meal off a restaurant’s lengthy menu. From our earliest days we are informed, politely or otherwise, that our attitude is poor and we need to change. At school we have changed our course preferences even as we changed allegiances. And when it comes to sporting teams, there are those among us that just like to back winners and so change their support to match. Ever since it was first rumored by IT professionals that the label strategic came with Velcro backing for ease of re-use (on a whim by sales and marketing), seeing “strategic” appended to products raises the hackles of even the most ardent supporters about any merits such product might have! As news broke this week of HPE setting up shop in a suburb of Houston, Texas news media jumped on the story very quickly. Was this just another case of a Silicon Valley company leaving California for a more tech-friendly state? Was it a case of simply giving its employees better housing options with the benefits of a less onerous tax structure? Well done, BITUG committee! Edinburgh, Scotland didn’t disappoint and the level of participation was tremendous with all keynote sessions very well attended … We left for Edinburgh, Scotland, as planned. We had dinner at the airport, caught a flight to London where we enjoyed lunch at Euston Station before taking the train to Edinburgh. All rather straight forward with the only hitch being that we should have caught the train from Kings Cross as our Virgin “express” stopped almost everywhere on its swing through the west of England and we arrived at our hotel some six hours later. Saw plenty of green hills and lots of sheep, mind you, and the weather was way warmer than we had anticipated. Yes, last Wednesday Scotland enjoyed warmer days than residents in Spain and even LA experienced.
